Delivery apps have transformed urban life in China

By The Economist

The Economist writes about how services of delivery workers in China have become a lifeline for many urbanites during the COVID-19 crisis. The workers remain key even as less stringent quarantine measures are in place.

While many of China’s battered companies are shedding staff food-delivery firms are hiring more to keep up with the demand.

Freshippo, Alibaba’s e-grocer, has engaged 2,000 staff from 30 idled restaurant chains while Meituan an e-commerce platform has hired more than 450,000 new riders.
