The Covid-19 crisis is hurting Asia’s gig economy workers and they want the government to help

By South China Morning Post

Thousands of gig workers in Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia whose incomes have been affected adversely by the Coronavirus want their governments to step in to stimulate the sector.

Like many gig workers elsewhere, there are currently no laws that could protect them during this crisis through sick leave and medical benefits.

Governments are scrambling to offer economic relief to businesses mainly and the gig workers worry that the benefits may not trickle down to them.
